Six couples, in their own words, some time after the day.
She was in the kitchen with my aunties for the best part of an hour and I did not see her take a single photograph. There are ninety of them, and they are the ones my mother has printed.
Ida and Tom, Basket Range, two months after
We have one picture of the ceremony taken from the back of the room, over everybody’s heads, and I have looked at it more than the whole album. You can see every face deciding how to feel.
Neve and Josef, Uraidla, a year after
It was forty degrees and we were a mess by two o’clock. She photographed the mess. I was worried about that at the time and I am not now.
Rosa and Danny, Lobethal, six months after
Our families had met once. There is a photograph of both our mothers laughing at something off to the side and neither of us knows what it was. It is the first thing you see when you walk into our flat.
Wren and Aditi, Piccadilly Valley, three months after
There were eleven of us. I did not want a photographer and Sam booked her anyway. I have apologised for that several times.
Clare and Sam, Mount Torrens, eight months after
She asked if she could photograph the washing up. We thought it was a joke. It is the best set of pictures from the entire weekend and there is not a single wedding thing in any of them.
Maia and Ollie, Balhannah, a year after
